Installations for prestressed steel cylinder pipes. (Prestressed concrete cylinder pipes)

PCCP pipes are fundamentally produced in two different manufacturing methods. PCCPs with embedded steel cylinder (ECP), and PCCPs with outer steel cylinder, (LCP). BFS offers a complete programme of machines and ancillary equipment for both manufacturing methods.

Over the past almost 50 years, the BFS CASAGRANDE engineers have set milestones in the development of these manufacturing systems and may justifiably describe themselves as pioneers and technology-leaders in this market segment.

The steel cylinders that give these concrete pressure pipes their name are produced on BFS CASAGRANDE forming and welding machines.

The cylinders composed by a special steel spigot ring, a spiral-rolled and welded steel sheet cylinder and a steel socket ring. The steel cylinder guarantees resistance to leakage at operating pressures of up to 20 bar and more.

In the ECP (embedded cylinder pipe) method, the pressure-tested steel cylinder is embedded the cast concrete walls of the pipe in a specially designed BFS casting mould. The concrete is cured in the mould.

In case of the LCP (lined cylinder pipe) method, only the inside of the steel cylinder is covered with a core layer of concrete. This can be reached particularly efficient and cost-effectively with the BFS Souveraen roller head machine. This machine is specifically modified and developed for this purpose.

Following the first stage of production, LCP and EPC pipes are pre-stressed with wire windings on the BFS radial pre-stressing machine. This wound wire layer is subsequently coated with a layer of water-resistant concrete mortar.

Depending on specific needs, PCCPs manufactured in this way may be passed on for further treatment, for example coating and/or lining with epoxy resin, polyurethane, PVC, GRP, etc.

The reliability of the pipes is guaranteed by leakage testing of the steel cylinders under pressure and the excellent quality of the concrete used in their production.

This method allows the production of pipes from DN 500 to 4000 mm with lengths of up to 8 metres.
